Wired For Words—Understanding the Creative Brain with Dr. Connie Shears

SCWA Connie Shears

Step into the mind of a writer—literally—with Dr. Connie Shears, acclaimed cognitive psychologist and expert on the creative brain, in this captivating presentation on the science and magic of how writers think. Dr. Shears will reveal what actually happens inside the brain during moments of true creative flow, and how the writer’s brain physically transforms when the writing is amazing. Learn why creative brains are wired differently, how writers literally “see” the world through a unique neurological lens, and why this difference is both fascinating and powerful. Whether you’re a writer, a reader, or just curious about the magic of creativity, this eye-opening session will change the way you think about storytelling—and the brain behind it.

Dr. Connie Shears directed an active research program in the Cognitive Science lab at Chapman University and is the co-author of The Science of Screenwriting. She has taught undergraduate courses in Statistics, Research Methods, Advanced Research Design, Perception and Cognitive Psychology—courses designed to offer students direct experience with the scientific method of psychological research and support student projects that reflect mastery of hypotheses testing and APA research reports.
