About Us

The Southern California Writers Association is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping writers from all genres, ages, and levels hone their skills and advance their careers. If you love to write, dream of being a published author, or provide services for writers as a book professional you are welcome to join our community.

SCWA remains relevant and active, even in these changing times. We continue to expand our online events and provide a supportive community of aspiring and active writers, published authors, screenwriters, and publishing professionals. Wherever you are, you can participate and join our network.

What do we offer?

    1. Monthly Featured Speakers – Online and/or in person as appropriate—We invite guest authors to share their secrets and tips the third Saturday of each month. Our events are available at a discount for members, and open to writers all over the world. For more information, please visit the Meetings page.
    2. Craft Shop—Want to improve your writing skills? This is the place for you. We offer a variety of workshops to help writers at all levels hone their craft.
    3. Pub Shop—presented by book professionals on topics of interest for publishing your book. Topics have included book cover design, the importance of book reviews, and using Kindle to market your books. Stay tuned for more great topics in 2021.
    4. Hump Day Book Tours—Lively conversations with successful authors via Livestream in our SCWA Facebook group.
    5. Website and email newsletter—our new website and monthly newsletter keep you informed about upcoming events, plus provide an avenue to promote yourself and your work. Check out Members’ Showcase and Profiles for a taste.
    6. Social Media connection
      • The SCWA public Facebook group is active and offers a variety of content for writers and readers, plus an opportunity to promote your books.
      • Our SCWA Members Only Facebook group offers exclusive, first look recordings of our workshops and more.
      • The new SCWA-Writers Online YouTube channel provides a place where authors can get more visibility and writers can enjoy our workshops anytime, anywhere.
