ABOUT ALLENE

Allene Symons is the author of Love in a Time of Caterpillars: A Memoir of Monarchs and Caregiving (Forked Road Press, February 3, 2024), as well as Aldous Huxley’s Hands: His Quest for Perception and the Origin and Return of Psychedelic Science (Prometheus Books, 2015). Her other books are Nostradamus, Vagabond Prophet: A Novel of His Life and Time (Avon Books 1982; reprinted by Forked Road Press 2012), and Adventures Abroad: Exploring the Travel/Retirement Option co-author with retirement expert Jane Parker.

She was a senior editor for Publishers Weekly in New York and general manager of Rizzoli International Bookstore in Costa Mesa. Allene has written articles, reviews, and essays for publications including the Los Angeles Times (Travel and book reviews) and Orange Coast magazine. She graduated from San Francisco State with a Bachelor’s in philosophy, has a master’s in history of religions (Buddhism) from Claremont Graduate University, and a master’s in Communications/Journalism from California State University, Fullerton.
